Petrolimex Saigon was established on September 17th, 1975 on the basis of taking over technical infrastructure of three oil companies including: Shell, Caltex and Esso. This is a large oil terminal clusters of the country, plays a key role in securing oil sources for the southern region.
During over 35 years of development, the company has grown in all aspects, affirm its position with the unit plays a key role in the market, to ensure adequate supply and timely petroleum needs for Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces. Besides, the company is also focused on ensuring safety and protecting the environment.
Modernization of infrastructure and management systems
To ensure stable and sustainable development, the company has made the investment program to modernize infrastructure, to expand business networks, to improve the quality of human resources. In recent years, the Company has invested hundreds of billions VND to upgrade, and invest the new technical infrastructe at Nha Be Oil Terminal. Up to now, Nha Be Oil Terminal is the first unit in the petroleum industry to use the modern laboratory, achieve ISO Standard, keep up with laboratories in the region and international (VILAS). Fire prevention equipments and environmental protection systems is invested new towards more professional and synchronous. Oil spill response forces are always ready to ensure timely response if any incident occurs.
Along with investment in modernization of production facilities, the company has established and applied management systems according to ISO Standards to change management method, to improve the capacity of executive management and working skills of employees. The company has successfully applied the quality management system according to ISO 9001, the occupational health and safety management system according to OHSAS 18001, environmental management system according to ISO 14001 and has been developing 5S tool (Sorting – Setting in order – Systematic Cleaning - Standardize - Sustain) at retail petroleum stations.

The business philosophy of our company is to meet better the needs of customers, supply to the market the high quality products with good services. Retail petroleum stations are upgraded and invested in modern equipments, available 24/24 hours. With professional style, enthusiastic service attitude, high quality products, the company's retail stations become trustworthy, always attract numerous customers. The Petrolimex image and brand reputation thereby spread and penetrate deeply in customer’s mind. Petroleum output of retail and agency channel all are rising above 10% per year, in 2009 reached over 450,000 cubic meter/ton per year, accounting for more than 40% market share of Ho Chi Minh City
With a upstream unit of the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation, the company annually receives more than 60% of the total imported petroleum volume of Corporation. If in 2005 was 3,9 million cubic meter/ton, in 2009 achieved 4,6 million cubic meter/ton. The company has a high growth rate, the capital preservation and development. The growth level of output, revenue, State budget next year is always higher than the previous year (In 2010, revenue is expected to reach over 16,000 billion VND and to pay State budget over 700 billion VND). For many years, Petrolimex Saigon has always been in top 500 ranking of leading enterprises in Vietnam voted by Vietnam Report.
Application of environmental management system and cleaner production measures
In early 2007, the company had developed management system according to ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 was integrated with quality management system according to ISO 9001:2008 which has been operating at Nha Be Oil Terminal, formed an integrated management system (QSHE) in accordance with management standards such as: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
Besides, the company in collaboration with I.C.S Co., Ltd organized training courses for its employees of Head Office and Nha Be Oil Terminal. With the objective of ensuring the absolute safety for people and property, the company has applied OHSAS 18001:2007 standard at Nha Be Oil Terminal with scope "Import - export – storage of petrol" and proposed solutions to prevent and respond to oil spill incidients on the river.
At the same time, the company launched many contests and promoted initiatives, improvement of technology about environment in order to help for cleaner production and ensure environmental safety in the whole company. A number of initiatives promoted efficiency as: improvement of oil recovery system with closed exhaust system; design of treatment of oil-contaminated wastewater equipment in accordance with scale of retail petrolimex stations; the technological innovation research project of recovery and disposal of oil contaminated waste.
Aware of the importance of environmental protection, on May 5th 2009, the company has established Technical Safety and Environment Department with functions of ensuring technical safety, fire prevention, environmental protection of the whole company. Annually, the company always plans to review oil spill response Steering Committee, environmental safety Steering Committee … and builds inspection plans periodically and irregularly about the technical safety, fire prevention and environmental protection. Only in 2009, the company invested 6,2 billion VND for environmental protection activities such as: upgraded the drainage system and wastewater treatment in Zone A; completed the work items of treatment of oil-contaminated wastewater Plant; constructed of roads and yards, green trees and landscapes at Nha Be Oil Terminal and Retail Petroleum Stations ...
In the future, the company will continue to enhance awareness and train skills of environmental protection and fire prevention, perform sorting of waste at source. With support of the Fire Prevention Department, the company has invested in infrastructure and facilities in the field of fire; rescued, overcame incidients, trained for collective staff and the specialized commanders in the whole company. At the same time, the company has maintained the regular inspection by month / quarter / year and the surveillance assessment of the City Natural Resources and Environment Department.
In addition, the company is also one of units to actively join in social work and share with the community. “Drinking water, one should think of its source” or “Gratitute is the sign of noble souls” has become a tradition and culture of its employees of the company. Annually, they contribute part of their salaries to perform the social policy, to bulid houses for families of war martyrs, war invalid veterans and poor people, as well as to provide scholarships to disadvantaged pupils, to support the local flood disaster, to assist the company’s staff when they are experiencing difficulties ... with a total budget of over 1 billion.
With these achievements, , on the occasion of the 35th founding anniversary of the company (Sept. 17), the company was awarded the Independence Order, third class for employees of Petrolimex Saigon and Nha Be Oil Terminal; the Labour Order, second class for employees of Retail Petroleum Enterprise; the Labour Order, third class for Trade Union and Mr. Tran Van Thang – President and Director of Petrolimex Saigon from the State President …
In particular, in the framework of the 3rd Environmental Conference 2010, the company was the only unit of Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation to be honored to award the Gold Cup and Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievement in environmental protection activities, contributing to the sustainable development of the country by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. This is the result of efforts of the collective leaders as well as all employees of the company are due in all business activities, Petrolimex Saigon has always focused, gradually invested in perfecting the infrastructure system, organized and managed, improved safety and environmental protection more and more practical and efficient.
