Launching Ceremony for the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of May 8th, at the headquarters of Petrolimex Saigon, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized the launching Ceremony for the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health 2024 (Action Month) with the theme "Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health at the Workplace and in the Supply Chain." Comrade Duong Anh Duc - Member of the City Party Committee - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of the City Occupational Safety and Health Council attended and launched the program.

From Petrolimex Saigon, there was the attendance of Party Secretary - Chairman of the Company Vo Van Tan; Deputy Director - Chairman of the Trade Union Pham Binh Phuong; Party Secretary - Director of the Saigon Petroleum Branch Nguyen Thanh Hai.

In her opening speech, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City Luong Thi Toi said that in 2023, there were 703 occupational accidents in the City, of which 44 were fatal. Occupational accidents mainly occurred in industrial production and construction sectors. Although occupational accidents decreased in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City is still one of the localities with the highest number of fatalities due to occupational accidents in the country.

Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City Luong Thi Toi hoped that departments, agencies, political and social organizations, and the business community would closely coordinate in implementing regulations in the field of occupational safety and health, ensuring a safe working environment for workers

Emphasizing the painful losses caused by occupational accidents across the country, including cases with up to 6-7 fatalities, Member of the City Party Committee - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of the City Occupational Safety and Health Council Duong Anh Duc said: “With such painful cases as recently, no one wants this to happen, whether to themselves, their loved ones, colleagues, or fellow citizens. Therefore, the launching Ceremony of the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health is very important. Together with the whole country today, on behalf of the People's Committee of the City, I declare the launching Ceremony of the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City with the theme Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health at the Workplace and in the Supply Chain.”

With the motto of prioritizing prevention in managing occupational safety and health, Ho Chi Minh City continues to emphasize the education and dissemination of occupational safety and health laws to businesses and workers; enhancing many management activities, inspections, and handling of legal violations in occupational safety and health, aiming to build a culture of occupational safety.

“It is not only the responsibility of the State management agencies on occupational safety and health but also requires the coordination of departments, agencies, political and social organizations, and the business community in implementing regulations in the field of occupational safety and health, ensuring a safe working environment for workers,” emphasized Ms. Luong Thi Toi.

Speaking at the Action Month ceremony, Chairman of Petrolimex Saigon Vo Van Tan shared: The company currently has over 1,600 workers, dealing in petroleum products, which are highly flammable. Therefore, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group and the Petrolimex Saigon always pay special attention to safety work. Over the years, the Company has spent tens of billions of VND annually on occupational safety and health, fire prevention and control, and environmental protection, from training and drills to regular quarterly drills; investing in modernizing facilities to minimize safety risks and improve working conditions for workers. The Company continuously issues procedures, regulations, and organizes regular and sudden inspections of the grassroots units. Thanks to good coordination between management levels and employees, the Company has always ensured absolute safety, without any safety incidents for many years.

The Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City runs from May 1 to May 31, but the City will act more vigorously and decisively, not only during the Action Month but in the future, to contribute to enhancing measures to minimize risks, improve working conditions at workplaces, and improve the quality of human resources, meeting the development requirements of the City in the new phase.
